Blessed Blooms: Flowers and Traditional Turkish Art

Did you know that for a short time, between 1718-1730 the Ottoman Empire had a period of time called the Tulip Era? In this class, students will learn about the significance and inspirations of roses and tulips in the Ottoman Empire. After seeing examples of the flowers in various art mediums, kids will get to experience traditional Turkish marbling techniques with toxic-free chalk. The kids will make their own flower stamps and do printmaking on their marbled paper with tempera paint. Gel pens are then added to embellish their design. A wonderful, rosy experience!
